Use an encrypted file transfer connection to upload and download website files.
Before you start
Give collaborators dedicated limited FTP accounts instead of the main hosting password.
What to do
- Get the FTP hostname and account details from your welcome message or FTP Management.
- In your FTP app, choose FTP with explicit TLS (FTPS) and the supplied hostname and port. Port 21 is common.
- Enter the exact FTP username and password; use passive mode if asked.
- Verify that the certificate matches the expected server before transferring files.
- Open the intended public_html directory and try a small test upload.
Check the result
Check the file in File Manager and remove the test file afterwards.
If you need a hand
SFTP is a separate SSH-based protocol. An FTP account does not necessarily grant SFTP access. Ask support to verify settings if login fails.
Open a support request. Include the affected domain and what you tried. Leave out passwords, full payment details, and private keys.
