How to update WordPress plugins safely

Keep plugins maintained with a way back if an update causes trouble.

What to do

  1. Back up files and the database and confirm you can restore them.
  2. Read update notes, especially for payment, form and page-builder plugins.
  3. Test on staging where possible.
  4. Update one plugin at a time and test its functions.
  5. Clear the relevant cache and check desktop and mobile pages.

Check the result

Test forms, checkout and login after related plugins change.

If you need a hand

Record the plugin and version if something fails. Coordinate with us on a care package to avoid overlapping maintenance.

Open a support request. Include the affected domain and what you tried. Leave out passwords, full payment details, and private keys.
